Tropical Storm Idalia has been upgraded to a Hurricane and is expected to become a category 3 by the time it makes landfall in the Big Bend area of Florida. Currently in our area we are experiencing heavy rain, flash flooding and tornado warnings.
Tropical Strom Idalia is continuing to head north at 8mph. A slight change in direction from 12:00PM has the storm heading slightly north however we are still expecting 2-4 inches of rain in the Naples and Marco Island area. We will continue to monitor the storm as it heads up the Gulf of Mexico.
Tropical Storm Idalia is currently located in the Gulf of Mexico, on the southwest edge of Cuba. Idalia is forecasted to become a Category 3 hurricane before reaching the Gulf Coast of Florida late Tuesday. The eye is currently projected to hit north of Tampa towards Gainsville. However, Storm Surge warnings and Tropical storm watches have been issued for parts of our area near the coast and we will continue monitoring throughout the coming days.
